錦ヶ浦の荒々しい断崖を背景に、自然と人間が共生する静かな昼下がりの情景を切り取ったものである。画面の大部分を占める巨大な岩壁は、細やかな彫りと摺りによって、その重厚な質感と地層の重なりが克明に表現されている。その圧倒的な自然の造形に対し、波打ち際の岩場に腰を下ろして釣りに興じる人物はごく小さく描かれており、この対比が風景に心地よい静寂とスケール感を与えている。
