During the Meiji period, Koson published many flower-and-bird works through his publishers, Daikokuya and Kokkeido. Most of these works were exported overseas, and are thought to have been the foundation for the later popularity of new prints (Shinhanga) overseas.
In the Taisho era, he changed his name to Shōson and began publishing his works through the publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō. Perhaps because he was more conscious of overseas sales, his works became larger and the colors more vivid. Shopping Guide & Information
