このシリーズは広重が没した安政5年に出版された遺作であるが、先行する北斎の冨嶽三十六景が横絵で力強い造形と土地の広がりを追求したのに対し、広重は縦絵を用いることで空間の奥行きや大気の動き、そしてその場所の持つ「空気感」を優しく表現しているのが大きな魅力である。相模川を下る筏師が見上げる夕焼けに富士と大山が共に彼らをみつめ返し、静かなのどかさを感じる。

This series is Hiroshige's posthumous work, published in 1858. While Hokusai's preceding "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" pursued a powerful form and expansive landscape through horizontal illustrations, Hiroshige's use of vertical illustrations contrasts this as it gently expresses the depth of space, the flow of air, and the "sense of place" itself. As a rafter traveling down the Sagami River glances at the sunset, Mount Fuji and Mount Oyama gaze back upon them, a calming sense of simplicity washing over.
