This series is Hiroshige's posthumous work, published in 1858. While Hokusai's preceding "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" pursued a powerful form and expansive landscape through horizontal illustrations, Hiroshige's use of vertical illustrations contrasts this as it gently expresses the depth of space, the flow of air, and the "sense of place" itself. As a rafter traveling down the Sagami River glances at the sunset, Mount Fuji and Mount Oyama gaze back upon them, a calming sense of simplicity washing over. Shopping Guide & Information
