小早川が描く美人は、その優美な目元に特徴がある。透き通るまつ毛の奥の淡い虹彩と深い瞳は、どこか見透かされているような心地にさせる。髪の毛や眉毛の繊細な表現も見逃せない。
小早川 清は清方の門人で初めは南画家の上田鉄耕に師事し、大正4年に上京して清方に美人画を学んだ。長崎を題材にした異国情緒溢れる美人画を描いており、続けて帝展において入選を重ねた。新版画の分野においても活躍しており、昭和5年には「近代時世粧」というシリーズを私家版により版行している。

Kobayakawa's beauties are characterized by their elegant eyes. The delicate irises shimmering behind the translucent eyelashes and the depth of the gaze create a sense of being seen through. The intricate depiction of the hair and eyebrows is also not to be overlooked.
Kobayakawa Kiyoshi, a student of Kiyokata, initially studied under Nanga painter Ueda Tekko before moving to Tokyo in 1915 to learn beauty paintings under Kiyokata. Renowned for his exotic depictions of Nagasaki beauties, his works were frequently selected for the Teiten Exhibitions. Kobayakawa also contributed to the Shinhanga (New Prints) movement and, in 1930, published the privately issued series "Kindai Jisei Sō (Modern Fashionable Styles)".
