Eiho was a student of MIZUNO Toshikata and KAWABATA Gyokushō. In the world of frontispiece illustration, he stood as a popular counterpart to Kiyokata. Both Eiho and Kiyokata were artistic descendants of Yoshitoshi and were also close friends, belonging to the same art group known as the Ugōkai.
