A depiction of the legendary tale of the Yorimitsu Shitenno, the four loyal retainers led by Minamoto no Yorimitsu, who set out to vanquish the Shuten-doji, a notorious demon residing in Mt. Oe. Shuten-doji, also known as the "Sake-drinking Demon," was feared for his penchant for abducting princesses. When princesses were being abducted one after another in Kyoto, their whereabouts were revealed by the onmyoji, Abe no Seimei, a practitioner of onmyodo. Upon learning this, the Yorimitsu Shitenno headed towards Mt. Oe. Disguised as yamabushi, practitioners or monks of Japanese Buddhism who undergo ascetic training in mountainous regions, to deceive the demons, this print illustrates the scene where they offer poisoned sake to the Shuten-doji, given to them by the gods they encounter along the way.

Yoshikazu was a disciple of Kuniyoshi and was active as an artist from around the Kaei era to around the third year of the Meiji period. He specialized in warrior prints, bird-and-flower paintings, and illustrations for kusazoshi books. After the opening of Yokohama Port, he became interested in the lifestyles of foreigners and produced numerous works as a pioneer of Yokohama-e.
