A pupil of Kikuchi Yosai, Mishima Shoso honed his skills with fellow students Watanabe Seitei and Suzuki Kason. He excelled in portraits, landscapes, and flower-and-bird paintings, and was even praised by Ernest Fenollosa.
In addition to Japanese-style painting, he also painted drafts for crafts, illustrations for newspapers and books, and Kuchi-e, a frontispiece of the novel. Shopping Guide & Information of the Japanese Prints
