小早川清は清方の門人で初めは南画家の上田鉄耕に師事し、大正4年に上京して清方に美人画を学んだ。長崎を題材にした異国情緒溢れる美人画を描いており、続けて帝展において入選を重ねた。新版画の分野においても活躍しており、昭和5年には「近代時世粧」というシリーズを私家版により版行している。

Kiyoshi Kobayakawa was a student of Kiyokata, initially studying under Ueda Tekko, a Nanga painter, before moving to Tokyo in 1915 to study beauty painting under Kiyokata. He painted exotic beauty paintings of Nagasaki, and his work was repeatedly selected for the Teiten Exhibition. He was also active in the field of new prints (Shinhanga), and in 1930 he published the series "Kindai jisei so" (Modern Fashionable Styles) in private editions.
