北寿は北斎初期からの門人で、寛政末期から文政頃に作画している。風景画を主として風俗画や狂歌本の挿絵、摺物、肉筆画も残している。「武江年表」の享和年間の記事に「北寿浮絵上手」と記されていることから、当時すでに相当の評価を得ていた絵師だったと思われる。北寿の風景画は北斎の洋風表現を受け継いだものといわれており、評価が高い。

Hokuju is a pupil of Hokusai and was active from the end of the Kansei era to the Bunsei era.
He mainly produced landscapes and left genre works, illustrations for Kyoka books, and paintings.
He was described in the Kyowa era article of the Buko Nempyo as 'Hokuju, the artist good at Uki-e'. Hokuju's landscape paintings are said to have followed Hokusai's Western-style expression and are highly regarded.
