Hokuju is a pupil of Hokusai and was active from the end of the Kansei era to the Bunsei era.
He mainly produced landscapes and left genre works, illustrations for Kyoka books, and paintings.
He was described in the Kyowa era article of the Buko Nempyo as 'Hokuju, the artist good at Uki-e'. Hokuju's landscape paintings are said to have followed Hokusai's Western-style expression and are highly regarded. Shopping Guide & Information of the Japanese Prints
