太平洋戦争中、深水は長野県の小諸に疎開していた記録が残る。その際に風景を写生したスケッチを元に、この信濃十景が制作された。
伊東 深水が18歳（大正5年）の頃、清方塾生による郷土会展に「対鏡」を出品したところ、渡邊庄三郎の目にとまった。この作品なら彫り摺りの技術を使いこなして木版画にすれば必ず良い作品が制作できると感じた庄三郎は、新版画の制作を決意。以後、大正5年から昭和35年までの間に130点を超える深水の新版画が制作されている。
その後も、日本画家としても文展に入選するなど早くから注目を集め、文展、帝展、新文展、戦後に入って日展を主な舞台として活躍し、日本を代表する美人画家として認められていった。

During the WWⅡ, Shinsui evacuated to Komoro, Nagano prefecture.
He created this series based on the sketches of there.
In 1916, when Ito Shinsui was 18 years old, an exhibition of the pupils of Kiyokata was held. Shinsui exhibited "Woman Looking in a Mirror" at the exhibition, and it fascinated Watanabe Shozaburo. Then Watanabe decided to start making woodcut printworks of Shinsui, and later, he created over 130 printworks from 1916 to 1960.
