華やかな屋形船で開かれた納涼会。ひと際大きな船の奥にいるのは、江戸時代版の源氏物語『偐紫田舎源氏』の光源氏である。光源氏が描かれた作品は源氏絵と呼ばれる。
豊国三代は豊国の門人で、まず国貞と名乗り、天保15年には豊国二代を称した。（実際には豊国三代）
作画期が長く、その作品の量も膨大なものになっている。特に役者絵・美人画等の人物の描写に定評があり、当時の浮世絵界を風靡するほどの勢いと力を持っていた。

Evening cool held on a gorgeous houseboat. The man in the back of the large boat is Hikaru Genji from the Edo period version of The Tale of Genji, "Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji". Works depicting Hikaru Genji are called Genji-e (Genji pictures).
Toyokuni III was a pupil of Toyokuni and took the name Kunisada. He took the name Toyokuni II in 1844. (In reality, Toyokuni III was the third generation of Toyokuni.) His painting period was long, and the volume of his works was enormous. He was especially known for his portrayals of actors and beautiful women, and he had the power and vigor to dominate the ukiyo-e world at that time.
