豊国三代は豊国の門人で、国貞と名乗っていたが、天保15年に豊国二代を称した。（実際には豊国三代）
作画期が長く、その作品の量も膨大なものになっている。特に役者絵・美人画等の人物の描写に定評があり、当時の浮世絵界を風靡するほどの勢いと力を持っていた。
