Natori Shunsen, while engaging in full-scale creative activities as a Japanese-style painter, also became famous for his illustrations for newspaper novels by Natsume Soseki and Shimazaki Toson, as well as the binding illustrations for literary books by Ishikawa Takuboku and others.
In the Taisho era (1912-1926) and later, he produced prints of actors' portraits for the publisher Shozaburo Watanabe, which were very popular.
