「木曽六十九駅」シリーズの一図で、宿場風景と役者絵を融合させた作品。中山道の宿を題材としながら、実景描写よりも人物の存在感と芝居的演出が強く打ち出されている。背景の山岳風景は写実というより舞台背景のように構成され、旅情よりもドラマ性を高める役割を担っている。

Part of the “69 Stations of Kisokaido ” series, this work combines a post-station landscape with the dramatic appeal of actor prints. Although it takes Station on the Nakasendo Road as its subject, the emphasis is placed less on realistic scenery and more on the commanding presence of the figure and the theatricality of the composition. The mountainous background is rendered not as a faithful depiction of nature, but more like a stage set, serving to heighten the sense of drama rather than evoke the sentiment of travel.
