Koso

KOSO was a disciple of Gekko and inherited his master’s sketch-based style, which placed strong emphasis on observation from life.

While remaining grounded in this tradition, Koso pursued a more purely artistic mode of expression and explored the possibilities of printmaking as a fine art, an ideal advocated by Gekko himself. In this sense, Koso can be seen as an artist who carried forward and deepened his teacher’s vision of woodblock prints as an autonomous form of artistic expression.
