Introduction
Rooted in an educational background in the arts of reproduction, SUMIFUDÉ (Satomi Suzuki) develops a cross-disciplinary practice mediated by utsushi, integrating media art, woodblock printmaking, and critical thinking. Her methods extend beyond printmaking to include design and video; however, her practice is consistently grounded in experimentation and learning, and in the shifts in perception that emerge from these processes. The contexts, inquiries, and histories embedded in each work interact with one another to generate meaning—much like sumi (ink) and fudé (brush), from which her artist name is derived, which only become a medium through their mutual existence.
