Introduction
YAMAJI Naoki studied oil painting in Japan before moving to Europe in 2016. He is currently based in the Netherlands, where he continues his artistic practice. Living in Europe led Yamaji to become more acutely aware of his own Japanese identity, prompting him to re-examine society and humanity from an objective standpoint shaped by his perspective as a Japanese artist.
His works depict figures that appear to fuse human and machine. While they present a dystopian atmosphere, they are also imbued with a strange sense of humor and irony. These images propose one possible vision of the relationship between humanity and technology as articulated through Yamaji’s artistic lens.
