広大な池を背景に桜と松のコントラストが際立つこの作品の舞台は、現在の鳥取県賀露町の湖山池。湖山池は古代は海であったが、砂丘の発達と堆積により分離して現在の形となった。池としては国内最大の面積を有し、海水と淡水が入り混じる汽水湖である。
「六十余州名所図会」（ろくじゅうよしゅうめいしょずえ）は、広重による日本全国の名所を描いたシリーズ。
全図とも画面は縦長で、前景を大きく描き遠近を強調するなど、斬新な構図がとられている。

Koyama-Ike pond had been the sea in ancient times, and the sands blown away from Tottori sand dunes made this area a pond.
For that reason, the pond water is brackish water.
This pond is the largest acreage as a pond in Japan.
"Famous Places in the 60-Odd Provinces" is a series by Hiroshige depicting famous places throughout Japan.
All of the works are vertically oriented, with innovative compositions such as a large foreground and emphasis on perspective.
