Introduction
HANO Kanami creates abstract portraits of people that seem to melt into space, using the deep overlapping textures unique to woodblock prints and the bleeding that occurs in the Japanese paper. The quiet strength that flows from her works seems to flow into the viewer as we follow the intentionally blurred and unsteady gaze of the figures. We would also like to draw attention to the changes in the form of the figures, her recent challenges with supporting materials, and three-dimensional works.
