UKIYO-E PROJECT

The term "Ukiyo" in Ukiyo-e refers to the "present" or "modern times." Historically, these woodblock prints depicted the popular beauties, Kabuki actors, and famous sightseeing spots of their respective eras.

Founded in 2014, UKIYO-E PROJECT is a contemporary publisher born from the desire to apply this traditional Ukiyo-e philosophy to the modern world. They portray today’s stars and landscapes through the medium of traditional woodblock printing.

By creating new demand for Ukiyo-e artisans and ensuring their techniques are passed down to future generations, this innovative movement has received high acclaim worldwide. Their works are now part of prestigious permanent collections, including the British Museum, the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna, and the University of Miami Libraries.

Gallery Soumeido is proud to introduce and offer these works for sale as an authorized dealer for UKIYO-E PROJECT.
