KIM Jihye's work begins with a photographic image. She searches for photos that touch "something inside of me" either directly taken by her or from her family's old photo albums, sketches them, and then creates her works using copperplate engraving techniques, mainly mezzotint. Kim describes her works as "a record of me engraved on copperplate prints," but the record here is closer to a "diary. These works begin with a very personal scene and have a tendency to self-confession. Is it "nostalgia," "love," "pity," or something else? It is a whirlwind of memories and emotions that cannot be expressed in exactly one word. And our emotions, as viewers of the work, are also greatly shaken.
