駒井哲郎は西田武雄に銅版画を学び、50年春陽会賞、翌年第１回サンパウロ・ビエンナ－レで受賞。木版の棟方志功とともにいち早く世界の舞台で高い評価を獲得し、戦後の美術界に鮮烈なデビューを飾った。銅版画のパイオニアとして大きな足跡を残した。

Komai learned copperplate engraving from Nishida Takeo and got a prize of Shunyo-Kai. In the next year, he got a prize at the first São Paulo Art Biennial.
Komai was highly appreciated even overseas with Munakata Shiko, and it enabled him to make a spectacular debut in the Japanese art field after WWⅡ.
His artwork had an impact on a lot of Japanese print artists, as a pioneer of the copperplate field.
