子に向かって舌を出して見せる母と、それを模倣する子。傍らの火鉢に被せられた軍鶏籠には、魔よけの「背守り」が刺繍された子供の着物がかけられている。温めているのか、あるいは乾かしているのか。
豊国三代は豊国の門人で国貞と名乗った。天保15年豊国二代を称した。（実際には豊国三代）作画期が長く、その作品の量も膨大なものになっている。特に役者絵・美人画等の人物の描写に定評があり、当時の浮世絵界を風靡するほどの勢いと力を持っていた。

A mother shows her tongue to her child and the child imitates her. A child's kimono, embroidered with "back protection" to ward off evil spirits, is put on a cock cage covered by a brazier beside them. It is presumably being warmed or dried.
Toyokuni III was a pupil of Toyokuni and took the name Kunisada. He took the name Toyokuni II in 1844. (In reality, Toyokuni III was the third generation of Toyokuni.) His painting period was long, and the volume of his works was enormous. He was especially known for his portrayals of actors and beautiful women, and he had the power and vigor to dominate the ukiyo-e world at that time.
