「今様押絵鏡」は、鏡に映し出された歌舞伎役者と、役者の詠んだ句で構成されたシリーズ。鏡に映る人物を描くことで、写実的な役者の姿である様を強調し、画面に配した鏡の縁は人物画のフレームのようにも見える。非常に現代的でデザイン性の高い豊国三代らしい作品。

豊国三代は豊国の門人で、まず国貞と名乗り、天保15年には豊国二代を名乗った。（実際には既に豊重が豊国二代を襲名していたが、自分の方がふさわしいという意図なのか当時は二代を名乗ったのだという。現在は区別の為に豊国三代として扱われる。）
作画期が長く、その作品数は一万点以上に及ぶと考えられている。特に役者絵・美人画等の人物の描写に定評があり、その作品数や勢いからして江戸浮世絵界を風靡していたことが窺える。

The "Mirrors for Collage Pictures in the Modern Style (Imayô oshi-e kagami)" series consists of Kabuki actors reflected in mirrors and haiku composed by the actors. By depicting the figures reflected in the mirror, the artist emphasizes that they are realistic portrayals of the actors, and the edges of the mirror placed in the picture appear to be framed for the portrait painting. This is a very modern and well-designed work typical of Toyokuni III.

ToyokuniⅢ was a student of Toyokuni. He first took the name Kunisada, and in 1844 he took the name ToyokuniⅡ. (In fact, Toyoshige had already succeeded ToyokuniⅡ, but ToyokuniⅢ also took the name of Toyokuni Ⅱ at that time, perhaps intending to make himself more suitable. Today, He is treated as the third generation to distinguish between them.)
ToyokuniⅢ had a long period of painting, and some articles thought he produced more than 10,000 works. He was primarily known for depicting people, including portraits of actors and beautiful women. His number of works and popularity suggest that he dominated the Edo Ukiyoe world.
