李禹煥は、大韓民国慶尚南道に生まれ、日本を拠点に世界的に活動している美術家である。
60年代後半から制作・理論の両面から「もの派」を牽引する中心的存在として活躍し、国内外から高い評価を集める。
同じようなタッチの連続した点や線を組み合わせた作品を多く制作する李だが、同じ動作を繰り返す反復のような制作の中でも、その時々で違う気温、環境、出来事などが作用し、毎回同じように見えて異なるもの、つまり差異性が生まれるという。
同一性と差異性のはざまで制作を続ける李はその両義的な要素を作品に落とし込み、自己と他者の現場、つまり生きるということの矛盾律の上に立っている。

Lee U-fan, born in Gyeongnamo, Korea, is a globally active artist based in Japan.
Since the late 1960s, he has been a noteworthy artist in leading the "Mono-ha" school in both creating and theory and has garnered high acclaim both in Japan and abroad.
Li often creates works that combine a series of dots and lines. Even in his repetitive work, in which he repeats the same actions, he says that different temperatures, environments, and events act to create something that looks the same each time but is different.
He continues to work between sameness and difference. He incorporates these ambivalent elements into his works, standing on the site of the self and the other, in other words, on the contradictory law of life.
