明治前期に流行したおもちゃ絵は、子供用に制作された錦絵である。洒落の効いた粋な表現は大人も楽しませた。当時の庶民文化を知る上でも貴重な資料と言える。

芳藤は国芳の門人で、多くのジャンルの浮世絵を手がけた。特に子供向けの玩具絵において丁寧な仕事をしており、「おもちゃ芳藤」と呼ばれたという。子供が見て遊ぶために制作された玩具絵故に、現在まで良好な状態で残っているものは数少ない。

Omocha-e (Toy pictures), popular in the early Meiji period, are prints produced for children. The stylish and humorous expressions of them had entertained adults as well. They are valuable materials for understanding the culture of the people of the time.

Yoshifuji was a pupil of Kuniyoshi and had created various genres of artworks. He particularly gained a reputation with the genre of Toy-Print, and he was called "Toy-print Yoshifuji".
Toy-Prints were created for children literally, so it is difficult to find out one in good condition.
