鎌倉時代の面々が餅つきをしている絵で、以下のメンバーが登場している。
もちつきの準備「大江広元、和田義盛」
もちつき　　　「義経、北条」　
おもちをのす　「清盛、義仲」
だいこんおろしでたべる「頼朝、尼公」

着物の絵柄にそれぞれ符号があり、明治維新の諷刺画として読み解くことができる。

諷刺画は江戸で大流行し、いかに情報を的確に庶民に読み解かせるかが絵師の腕の見せ所であった。また、このような僅かな情報から当時の世相を読み解いていた江戸の庶民の政治的関心も相当なものだったと窺える。

Preparing for Mochitsuki; “Ōe no Hiromoto and Wada Yoshimori ”
Pounding mochi; “Yoshitsune and Hōjō”
Flattening mochi; “Kiyomori and Yoshinaka”
Eating mochi with grated daikon; “Yoritomo and Nikou”

Each of the kimono patterns has its symbol, and can be read as a satire of the Meiji Restoration.

Satire was very popular in Edo (Tokyo), and the artist's skill was how accurately the information could be deciphered by the common people. The political interest of the common people of Edo, who could decipher the state of affairs at the time from such a small amount of information, was also considerable.
