江戸時代に流行した3人の神、奪衣婆（だつえば）、お竹（おたけ）、翁稲荷（おきないなり）の3人が狐拳（きつねけん）をして遊んでいる。狐拳は、現在のじゃんけんのようなもので、狐、猟師、庄屋のポーズで勝負したもの。

芳虎は国芳の門人で、幕末から開化期にかけて活躍した絵師の一人である。明治元年には錦絵師番付で貞秀に次いで第2位となり、トップクラスの人気があったことを物語っている。芳虎が最も活躍したのは明治維新前後の目新しい風俗を描いた横浜絵や開化絵の分野で、相当数の作品を残している。当時の多くの日本人にとっては未知の外国風景も描いた。

Three deities popular in the Edo period, Datsueba, Otake, and Okina-inari, are playing "Kitsune-ken". "Kitsune-ken" is like today's rock-paper-scissors game with the fox, the hunter, and the village headman posing as the three elements.

Yoshitora was one of the pupils of Kuniyoshi and was active from the end of the Edo-shogunate to the Meiji era. In 1968, he become the second artist in the Ukiyo-e artist ranking, and it tells us that he had actually been known in the Ukiyo-e field.
He had especially been known for artwork of the depictions of the new culture which came from overseas and the scenery of Yokohama where thrived as an international town. In the era, general citizens hadn't seen the actual western cultures, architecture from foreign countries, and the fashions, so people could know it from Ukiyo-es.
