様々な作品を描いてきた広重が最後にたどり着いたのは、大胆な構図が特徴の「名所江戸百景」であった。「名所江戸百景」は、モネやゴッホといった印象派の巨匠たちが模写したことで世界的にも知られている。高い視点から見下ろす俯瞰図や前景に印象的な素材を大きく描く遠近法、様々な摺りの技術を駆使した表現方法など、晩年に至ってなお新しい試みが随所に見られる意欲作である。日頃何気なく目にしている風景が、広重の手に掛かればこうも印象深くなるのかという驚きこそが、江戸の人々を魅了したのではないだろうか。
八景坂は現在の東京都大田区に存在した坂である。急な坂を登り切ると立派な松があり、八幡太郎として知られる平安後期の武将・源義家が鎧をかけたことから、鎧掛松とよばれたという。

"100 Famous Views of Edo" which is known for the attractive compositions was created through the studies of the various artworks. Despite his age, he kept exploring new expressions.
This series is also known with the episode of that the impressionists' artists, for instance, Monet and Gogh, imitated for the practice.
People in Edo surprised and fascinated by the new impression of the views in daily life that are depicted in Hiroshige's artworks.
Hakkei-Zaka Slope had existed in the present Ota-ku, Tokyo. On the hilltop, there was a giant pine tree which was called Yoroikakematsu. The word Yoroi meanes armor and it comes from the legend story of that Minamoto no Yoshiie hanged his armor on the pine tree when he visited there.
