菖蒲の咲く美しい水辺に佇む2羽の鷭を描いた1枚。霞む空気は爽やかな若草色で表現され、鷭の額の赤が美しく映えている。
近年、日本での人気が急上昇しつつある古邨（1877-1945）。そのずば抜けた観察眼と描写力によって描かれる花鳥画は、江戸時代の浮世絵と同じように、海外で美術的価値が高まったのちに日本でも評価されるようになった。版元によって古邨、祥邨、豊邨と三種の画号を使い分けており、この作品は渡辺版画店より出版された祥邨の作品として制作されている。
