Yoshiiku was a pupil of Kuniyoshi and studied with Yoshitoshi. After Kuniyoshi's death, he became one of the leading ukiyo-e artists from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period by depicting the manners and customs of brothels.
In 1872, he became the founder of the "Tokyo Nichinichi Shinbun" (Tokyo Daily News), and in 1874, he began to create Ukiyo-e for the "Tokyo Nichinichi Shinbun" (Tokyo Daily News), pioneering the Ukiyo-e newspapers.
