Beisaku

Beisaku was a ukiyo-e artist active during the Meiji period, known as a pioneer of manga who created Japan's very first serialized comic strip. He studied under Kobayashi Kiyochika, deeply inheriting his master's mastery of "Kosenga" a technique that skillfully manipulates light and shadow—as well as his sharp sense for capturing the atmosphere of the era. Although he passed away at the young age of 40, the achievements he left behind during his short life span a wide range of fields.
