ギャラリーそうめい堂は、長田奈緒の個展「紙を持つ手は紙」を開催いたします。

なぞかけをも思わせるこの展覧会名。メインビジュアルの写真は、長田の手と、浮世絵の中の手を組み合わせたものです。長田の手は現代の紙を持ち、浮世絵の手は江戸の紙を持ち。そしてその手というのもまた、紙に印刷され、長田の手もまた写真として印刷されている。この幾層にも重なった印刷物の構造は、長田がこれまで行ってきた制作に通じるものがあります。​

長田は見過ごされがちなものの存在を鋭く見出して丁寧に採集し、それらを版を通して再構成することで、私たちの前に新たな形で提示してきました。空間に半ば隠されるように置かれた作品を見つけるとき、それが見慣れたものではなく、素材・支持体においてまったくの別物になっているという事に気付かされます。ものの存在とは、見知ったものとはそもそも何をもってそう思わせられていたのだろうかと、その存在意味さえも問い直す作品群は、鑑賞者の記憶に違和感として確かに残り、何かを託すように思います。
これまでAmazonの段ボールやストローの包装紙など、日常生活で目にする消耗品的な印刷物をモチーフに作品を制作してきた長田ですが、本展ではそうめい堂の空間において美術品として扱われる浮世絵版画の印刷物としての側面に着目し、新作を発表します。

Gallery Soumeido is pleased to present Osada Nao's solo exhibition '紙を持つ手は紙,' literally means 'Hand holding paper is a hand.'

The photograph of this main visual, the combination of Osada's hand holding the artwork and the hands holding a paper in the print scroll in a picture, have a connection to this suggestive exhibition title. This multi-layered structure of printed matters is similar to Osada's previous artworks.

Osada has observed and carefully collected the existence of often overlooked objects and reconstructed them through printing, presenting them to us in a new form.
When we find artwork, such as a box of amazon, placed sometimes hidden in space, we realize that it is not a familiar object we knew well but something utterly different regarding material and support.
The works sometimes question the existence of things and the meaning of their existence and seem to leave something in the viewer's memory as a strange feeling.

In this exhibition, Osada will present new works in the Soumei-do, an exhibition space surrounded by numerous Ukiyo-e prints, focusing on Ukiyo-e prints as printed matter.
