Exhibition of ICHIKAWA Shiori "Ethics Under the Stone,"

2023. 1. 21st (Sat.) - 2. 4th (Sat.)

Gallery Soumei-do is pleased to present "Ethics Under the Stone," a solo exhibition by Ichikawa Shiori.
By depicting creatures struggling around humans, Ichikawa has attempted to reflect on the problems of human society from an objective perspective and with love.
Ichikawa explains why she chose not to depict humans to create works about human society.

"When we observe the lives of living creatures, we look for meaning in their gestures and eyes. Of course, they and we have different structures of feeling, and they do not have language, even though they will never be able to tell us the answer to that question. But we cannot stop doing it, and we are certain that we are trying to understand their feelings with affection. Every day I wonder what it is that transcends language, culture, and religion and is common to all human beings. I believe that the feeling we get when we try to understand the feelings of them, whose worlds are different from ours, will be one of the breakthroughs that will make this world a better place."

In this exhibition, her second solo show at Soumei-do, she will exhibit works that she says she created by thinking about the feelings and lives of tiny beings, based on the episodes of an insect pretending to be dead under a stone and a stink bug found in her bag.
From the pet animals she has been continuously creating, this exhibition focuses on "pests," which are smaller and weaker and which humans tend to have a one-sided image. We hope this exhibition is fruitful.
