Introduction
Naho Fujino focuses on everyday scenes that we casually encounter in daily life, along with the personal memories and emotions deeply connected to them. Her practice is guided by a clear intention: to evoke a sense of nostalgia and empathy in the viewer, which is why she deliberately chooses ordinary, familiar landscapes as her subjects.
The motifs she depicts are street corners that many people have experienced or seen somewhere before. However, they are not rendered as mere realistic representations; rather, they appear as images of “fragments of emotion,” reconstructed through the filter of memory. Fujino places great importance on subtle sensory impressions—such as a fleeting shimmer of light or the particular texture of the air at a specific time of day—and expresses them through quiet, subdued colors and gentle surfaces.
Through this approach, her works awaken ambiguous emotions hidden within the viewer, such as nostalgia and gentle melancholy. As the images resonate with each viewer’s own personal experiences, they acquire a sense of universality and deep emotional connection. By creating a distinctive world in which newness and nostalgia coexist, Fujino invites the viewer on a journey through her memories.
