文芸雑誌「文芸倶楽部」の口絵として制作された作品である。春のうす曇りの日（花曇り）を背景に、墓参りと思われる場面で静かに佇む女性の姿が描かれている。
口元に手拭いを当て、切ない面持ちで視線を落とす女性のしぐさや表情から、亡き人への強い思いや哀愁が巧みに表現されている。桂舟が得意としたドラマチックで抒情豊かな人物描写と繊細な木版技術が見事に融合しており、明治文学の持つしっとりとした情念をうかがわせる一作である。
