髪の乱れや脱ぎかけた着物、半開きの重たい目元といったリアルで生々しい仕草を通じて、女性の身体的な不調や疲労感、内面の虚無感が巧みに表現されている。芳年の優れた観察眼と、人間の内面描写に対する卓越した画技がいかんなく発揮された作品である。
